  1. 1Identify the two sources
  2. 2Describe the difference
  3. 3Avoid merging the accounts

A written plan and a person's account of following it are separate sources of information. Merging them can hide the very difficulty a review is intended to communicate.

The first practice set in Advanced OET Writing for Pharmacists: Practice Sets 1 to 50 with Sample Answers places a documented plan beside reported use and understanding. This guide practises clear attribution without giving medication advice.

Label the plan and the report

Use wording that makes the distinction visible: “The written schedule states…” and “She reports…” can serve different purposes. Do not present reported behaviour as if it were the instruction.

Original study example

Plan: Upload one exercise each Friday.

Report: Learner uploads all exercises at the end of the month.

Summary: “The plan specifies weekly uploads on Fridays, but the learner reports uploading the exercises together at month-end.”

Keep explanations attributed

If the person supplies a reason, report it as their explanation. Do not invent a motive from the difference alone.

What is missing from “The schedule is monthly”?

That sentence changes the written plan to match reported behaviour. It removes the discrepancy rather than describing it.

Separate clarification from outcome

Explaining an instruction does not prove that future behaviour has changed. Record the action completed without guaranteeing its result.

Practise with a two-column note sheet: documented instruction and reported action. Write a concise contrast, then a separate sentence describing any clarification actually recorded in the task.
