  1. 1Trace each claim

  3. 3Revise unsupported wording

A model letter is useful for studying choices, but it should still be checked against the task and notes. Fluent wording does not make every statement accurate.

The first set in Precision Writing for OET Doctors presents case notes, selection reasons and a sample letter. This guide turns that three-part structure into an evidence-checking exercise.

Match each factual statement to a note

Choose one paragraph and identify the evidence for each claim. Mark statements that summarise several notes, and check whether the summary preserves their limits.

Original neutral example

Notes: Completed two tasks; third task unfinished.

Model sentence: “All tasks have been completed.”

Revision: “Two tasks have been completed, while the third remains unfinished.”

Check broad summary words

Words such as “all,” “no,” “normal” and “resolved” can compress information too far. Ask whether the notes support the entire claim, not only part of it.

Test the summary

If a note says one problem has improved, “all difficulties have resolved” adds both a wider scope and a stronger outcome. Keep the specific improvement instead.

Separate writing analysis from clinical decisions

Use the supplied case for language practice. Do not treat a model's treatment details as guidance for a real person or add medical facts to repair an unclear writing exercise.

Keep a revision log with the original statement, supporting note and corrected wording. This makes model review active and helps you notice the same pattern in your own drafts.
