  1. 1State the aspiration
  2. 2Explain the interest
  3. 3Separate plans from possibilities

A place you hope to visit is different from a trip you have booked. Your verb choices help the listener understand which parts are an aspiration, a plan or an uncertain possibility.

The future-destination cue card in Achieve Band 9 in IELTS Speaking: 50 Full Practice Materials offers a starting point. This guide uses an original fictional destination example and does not promise an examination result.

Choose the right level of commitment

“I would like to visit” expresses a wish. “I am planning to visit” suggests preparation. “I have booked” reports an arrangement. Use the one that fits your situation.

Original future-travel practice

“I would like to visit a coastal town where I could spend time walking and taking photographs. I have not arranged the trip yet, but I hope to go when I can take a few days off.”

Give reasons you can explain

You might be interested in a landscape, an activity or seeing relatives. Explain that interest without inventing detailed facts about a destination you do not know well.

Repair the certainty

Information: The speaker wants to travel but has not made arrangements.

Draft: “My hotel is booked and I will definitely go next month.”

Revision: “I hope to go next month, although I still need to arrange the trip.”

The revised version preserves the uncertainty supplied in the practice information.

Connect the destination to its personal meaning

Explain why the experience appeals to you rather than listing attractions. A quiet place may matter because you want time for photography; a city may interest you because a relative lives there.

Record a short response and underline the future expressions in a transcript. Check that they accurately represent what is decided and what remains only a possibility.
