Study in Italy

Study abroad · Italy

Italy combines the world’s oldest universities with low public-university fees. The route runs through pre-enrolment first, visa second — in that order.

Step 1 — Pre-enrol on Universitaly

Non-EU students must pre-enrol through the Universitaly portal within the annual window, nominating their chosen university and course. Your application is validated there before any visa can be issued — a visa application without pre-enrolment will not succeed.

Step 2 — Validate your qualifications

Universities verify foreign school-leaving certificates, often via a Declaration of Value from the Italian authorities or a CIMEA comparability statement, plus translations and legalisation where required. Start this months ahead; document chains are the main cause of delay.

Step 3 — Entry visa, then residence permit

Apply for a study entry visa at the Italian mission with pre-enrolment summary, funds, accommodation and insurance. Within eight working days of arrival, apply for the permesso di soggiorno per studio at the local post office or questura.

English and Italian proof

Most bachelor degrees teach in Italian (B2 commonly required); a growing set of masters run in English with IELTS or equivalent thresholds. Prepare with Jobins Training English courses for the English-taught route.
